BONNIE
McGUIRE JONES, has practiced, since 1982, in the areas of:
- Trust, Estate and Tax Planning,
- Trust and Estate
Administration,
- Preparation of Estate, Gift, and Fiduciary Income Tax Returns,
- Estate Planning with Retirement Plans and IRAs, and
- Charitable Gift Planning and Implementation
Bonnie holds the highest rating for both
expertise and ethics awarded by Martindale-Hubbell, the
independent rating service of the legal profession. Bonnie was admitted to the New York
State Bar (all courts) in 1982, the U.S. Federal District Court (Northern District of NY) in 1983, the U.S. Tax Court in 1983,
and the U.S. Supreme Court in 1993.
Bonnie is a graduate of the Syracuse University College of
Law, and received her Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum
laude, from St. Lawrence University where she was inducted
into Phi Beta Kappa. She has completed post-graduate seminars
at Oxford University in 2002, the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2004, and Harvard Law School in 2006.
A past president of the Estate Planning Council of Eastern New York, Bonnie has been re-elected as the 4th
Judicial District Delegate to the Trusts & Estates Executive
Committee of the New York State Bar Association. As a
delegate, Bonnie previews and shapes proposed changes to New York State laws governing Trusts and Estates. Bonnie previously served on the boards of the Community Foundation of the Capital Region, Ellis Hospital and the Saratoga Care Foundation.
In
September 2008 Bonnie will co-chair a new seminar for the New
York State Bar Association. The seminar is entitled,
"Navigating through Incapacity Issues," and will be offered in
Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo and New York City.
Bonnie has
spoken for Albany Law School's Institute for Legal Studies,
Albany Law School's Senior Citizens Law Day, and the New York
State Bar Association’s Continuing Legal Education courses
over a dozen times in recent years. In 2007 she was invited to
become a faculty member for the New York State Banker's Trust
& Estate Administration School, and will return as a member of
the faculty in 2008. Known for her skill in
explaining legal issues to the public as well as attorneys,
Bonnie has spoken at the following educational programs hosted by colleges and community organizations in Saratoga Springs, the Capital District
Region and the Hudson River Valley, and has
spoken at professional meetings statewide.
